Lexus App Not Working? How to Fix Remote Start & Remote Connect
Lexus app remote start usually fails for one of five reasons. The vehicle's remote-start conditions aren't met (a door, the hood, or the trunk isn't fully closed, the car isn't locked, or a warning light such as the check engine light is on). The Remote Connect trial or subscription has lapsed. The vehicle has no cellular or GPS signal. The 12-volt battery is low. Or the app is signed in to the wrong vehicle profile. Work through the checks below in order. If remote start still fails after all of them, the vehicle's telematics system needs a dealer diagnosis.
The 30-second remote-start checklist
Remote start is designed to refuse the command unless the vehicle is secured. Before you troubleshoot the app, confirm all of these at the vehicle:
- All doors fully closed
- Hood fully latched
- Trunk or liftgate fully closed
- Vehicle locked
- Shifter in Park
- Key fob not left inside the vehicle
- No check engine or other warning light on
- Engine not already running
How to fix Lexus app remote start, in order
-
Confirm the remote-start conditions
Use the checklist above. A hood switch that doesn't register as closed is a common hidden cause, so press the hood down firmly and try again. If a warning light is on, remote start stays disabled until it's resolved.
-
Check your Remote Connect subscription
Remote start, remote lock and unlock, and vehicle status need an active Remote Connect trial or paid subscription. Trial length varies by model year and model, and the remote buttons stop working when the trial ends.
In the Lexus app, open your vehicle's Subscriptions (or Connected Services) screen and confirm Remote Connect shows as active.
-
Make sure the app is on the right vehicle and account
If your household has more than one Lexus, or the vehicle was recently bought or sold, the app may be pointed at the wrong vehicle or at an account that isn't the primary subscriber. Select the correct vehicle, update the app, then sign out and back in.
-
Check signal at the vehicle
Remote commands travel over a cellular connection to the vehicle's telematics unit and depend on GPS. Underground garages, lower parking-deck levels, and rural dead zones can block the command even when your phone has signal. Move the vehicle into the open and try again.
-
Start and drive the vehicle once
If commands show
Failedor the app can't reach the vehicle, start it with the key, drive a short distance with good signal, then retry. That lets the telematics unit reconnect and refresh vehicle status. -
Rule out a weak 12-volt battery
A vehicle that sits for days, makes lots of short trips, or goes through a cold Lehigh Valley morning can drop into a power-saving state that limits remote functions. A slow crank, dim interior lights, or a battery message are strong signs. We test batteries during service. See Lexus batteries.
-
Look for pending activation or a known hardware limit
A
Pendingstatus can mean connected-services activation was never completed. Lexus Guest Experience (1-800-25-LEXUS) can walk you through finishing it. Some older Lexus models built with 3G-only telematics lost app remote functions when U.S. carriers retired their 3G networks in 2022. Our service team can confirm what your VIN supports.
What your Lexus app is telling you
| What you see | Most likely cause | Try this | Needs a dealer? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote start button missing or grayed out | Remote Connect not active, or the wrong vehicle is selected | Check Subscriptions and select the correct vehicle | Rarely |
| Command sends, then fails | A remote-start condition isn't met, or the vehicle has no signal | Run the checklist, then move the vehicle into the open | If it happens every time |
| Engine starts, then shuts off quickly | A door, hood, or trunk opened, or the vehicle detected a fault | Check for warning lights and confirm the hood is latched | If a warning light is on |
| Status stuck on "Pending" | Connected-services activation not completed | Call Lexus Guest Experience to finish activation | Sometimes |
| Vehicle status and location out of date | The vehicle hasn't connected recently | Drive the vehicle with good signal, then refresh the app | If it never updates |
| Nothing works after a battery replacement or dead battery | The telematics unit needs to reconnect | Drive the vehicle, then retry remote commands | If it persists past a day |
| Worked for years, then stopped entirely (older model) | Retired 3G network hardware, or an expired subscription | Check your subscription, then ask us about your VIN | To confirm what your VIN supports |

- Remote commands fail everywhere, even in open lots with strong signal
- The app shows an active subscription, but the vehicle never updates
- A warning light is on that blocks remote start
- The battery keeps going weak, or tests show parasitic drain
- The in-car SOS or connected-services system shows an error
Our technicians can test the 12-volt battery, scan for stored faults, and check the telematics system in one visit.
Lexus app and Remote Connect questions
Why won't my Lexus remote start work from the app?
The most common causes are an unmet remote-start condition (door, hood, or trunk not fully closed, vehicle not locked, or a warning light on), an expired Remote Connect trial or subscription, no cellular or GPS signal at the vehicle, a weak 12-volt battery, or the app being set to the wrong vehicle. Check them in that order.
Do I need a subscription to use Lexus remote start?
App-based remote start needs an active Remote Connect trial or paid subscription. The complimentary trial length varies by model and model year, and you can check yours on the Subscriptions screen in the Lexus app.
How long will a Lexus run on remote start?
A remote start runs for up to 10 minutes if no one enters and drives the vehicle, and then the engine shuts off.
Why does my Lexus app say the vehicle status is pending?
A pending status usually means connected-services activation wasn't completed. Lexus Guest Experience at 1-800-25-LEXUS can help you finish it, and Lexus of Lehigh Valley can check the vehicle's telematics system if activation still won't complete.
Will the Lexus app work in a parking garage?
Often not. Remote commands need a cellular connection and GPS at the vehicle, and underground or lower-level garages frequently block both, even when your phone has service.
